Upcoming Albums in 2019
The Albums I’m Most Looking Forward To
Usually we reserve this space for album reviews, but there’s a lull in new releases so we thought it would be a good time to go through the albums I’m most looking forward to through the end of the year.
I’ll split the albums into three categories. The first are the albums that have definite release dates — of course something could change, but these albums have current release dates. The second group are bands that have records that are rumored to be released soon, so I’m including those as well. And finally, a few long shots. I asked for a Steve Perry record that seemed impossible and it actually happened, so I’m taking partial credit.
With Release Dates
7/19 — Eddie Money — This could be good or a train wreck. I’ve always been a fan so I’m curious to see where this one goes.
8/2 — Skillet — The band that changes their sound every few years, it will be interesting to see which direction they go with this record.
8/23 — Dead Daisies — It’s a cover record with some live stuff so it’s barely a “new record”, but I’ll be checking it out.
9/13 — KXM — Third record from these guys. With the talent in this band, I’ve hoped for more but maybe this is the record they put it all together.
9/15 — The Defiants — I really like their debut record so really looking forward to hearing this one.
9/20 — Michael Schenker Group — A second Schenker Fest album featuring different vocalists. I do wish he’d just do a record with Robin McAuley, but hopefully there’s some good stuff here.
10/11 — Michael Sweet — A new solo album from one of the busiest guys in rock.
10/11 — Eclipse — I’ve loved everything this band has done. This is my frontrunner for album of the year. Hope it lives up to my lofty expectations.
10/18 — Alter Bridge — Myles Kennedy doesn’t take much time off, does he? Fresh off a new Slash album, he’s back with a new Alter Bridge album.
No Release Date
Extreme — They’ve been working on a record for quite some time and even have some tour dates. So maybe?
Dan Reed Network — They are touring and have worked on new material. Loved their last EP.
Goo Goo Dolls — I believe they have a new song out. Hard to say if they keep on this pop direction or they go back to rock. Hopefully it’s rock.
King’s X — They just finished up in the studio so hopefully they get their first new album in a decade out in 2019.
Night Ranger — I’ve heard they are working on a new record. Anything they release is a must buy for me.
Richie Sambora — He’s posted photos of him in the studio so that leads me to believe something’s coming out soon.
Sass Jordan — We already have the title “Big Noise” so hopefully a release date isn’t far behind.
Shark Island — The long awaited record is just about ready to go. Just waiting for it to drop.
Third Eye Blind — Evidently the new album is finished, but you never know with these guys.
Tokyo Motor Fist — They’ve announced a new record but it’s probably not coming until 2020.
Wishful Thinking?
AC/DC — Supposedly a new tour with Brian Johnson is in the works.
Anberlin — They are touring so you never know?
Ratt — Not sure it can even be called Ratt with only two original members, but they are supposedly working on a record.
Schon/Waite — Neal has proposed a project with John Waite. Not holding my breath though.
Winery Dogs — Schedules are supposed to align soon for a third record.
