Album Review — The Dead Daisies
The Dead Daisies — Burn It Down
The ever-changing SuperGroup The Dead Daisies are back with their third album, Burn It Down. The current band lineup includes John Corabi (vocals), Doug Aldrich (guitar), David Lowry (guitar), Marco Mendoza (bass) and Deen Castronovo (drums).
After their more melodic sophomore release Make Some Noise and the addition of former Journey drummer Deen Castronovo, I expected Burn It Down to move in a similar direction. But Burn It Down is another slight turn in direction, this time to a heavier, blusier feel.
The album kicks off with a 70s Aerosmith vibe with “Resurrected”. Corabi does his best Steven Tyler as the song has a Train Kept a Rollin’ feel. There are songs that sound similar to the Corabi-led Motley Crue record but the general feel to me is a more updated 70s Aerosmith.
Other highlights on the record include “Judgement Day” which starts off mostly acoustic but kicks in to a bluesy rocker. And “Dead and Gone” sounds like it could have been off the Corabi-led Crue record.
Overall, I like the record. There aren’t any real standout songs for me — I like them all about the same. I don’t really hear a single and there aren’t any ballads to speak of. Just some good hard rock songs here.
I’m hoping the band can keep some continuity going forward as I think the band is still looking a bit for their sound. I really think this Corabi/Aldrich duo could really create some great music going forward and with the addition of Castronovo, I feel like this incarnation of the band could stick around a while.
