Land of Gypsies — Land of Gypsies

To start 2022 we will review our last album from 2021. Land of Gypsies is a new band with a name you are probably familiar with. Terry Ilous made his mark with XYZ and then spent almost a decade fronting Great White. Ilous has teamed up with bassist Fabrizio Grossi and released their self-titled debut album in December of 2021.

Overall, the album has a bluesy feel to it. The first four tracks are good examples of the blues influence, including the lead single “Shattered”. Ilous feels right at home as his vocals fit right in.

“Somewhere Down The Line” is a little more straight forward rock and is one of my favorite tracks on the record. It’s got a little more hook to the track which works really well.

“Rescue Me” starts off slower which gives Ilous a chance to emote a little more. The track kicks in about half way in and sounds very Zeppelin to me.

The next few of tracks remind me of other vocalists. “Ordinary Man” features Ilous sounding a lot like Tesla’s Jeff Keith while “Run Away” sounds a bit like Eric Martin.

“Long Summer Day” is another more melodic rocker that again has a bit of an Eric Martin vocal style to it.

The album ends with a couple of 70’s style rockers in “Rambling Man” and “Get It Right”.

Overall, this is a good record. The front half of the record leans more bluesy but I tend to favor the more straight ahead rock tracks here. Ilous sounds great on both styles and he shows some variety in his vocal delivery.

There are some good tracks here and something worth checking out if you are a fan of Terry Ilous for sure.
