Album Review — John Corabi
John Corabi — Live 94
John Corabi is one of the most underrated and under appreciated singers/songwriters in rock. He has been apart of some great records from The Scream to Union to The Dead Daisies and much more. But maybe his best work is the one record he recorded with Motley Crue in 1994. The record didn’t do well commercially as I believe the record company made a mistake by not re-branding them as a new band but trying to capitalize on the Motley Crue name. The album sounds almost nothing like anything Motley Crue had ever done.
Over 20 years later Corabi assembled a band (that includes his son on drums) and performed the album from front to back in Nashville. That show was recorded and released earlier this year. I’ve hoped at some point something would be released from the touring they did in 1994 but this is the next best thing.
The band sounds great and Corabi sounds as good as he did back then. He tells some great stories between a few of the songs including how he was approached to audition for the band.
The show is a much more intimate setting than it would have been back in 1994 but the recording is high quality. I do wish they would have done a few of the unreleased songs that have found their way to the public over the years, but I’m not complaining. I’m just happy to have these songs performed live.
Now that Motley Crue is no longer it would seem to be a perfect time for this version of the band to reform under a different moniker much like Dio did with Black Sabbath. It’s not a popular opinion, but I prefer this version of the band by far. This is a must own for anyone who appreciates the Corabi-fronted Crue.
