Album Review — Iron Maiden
Iron Maiden — Legacy of the Beast
It wasn’t too long ago that we heard news that Bruce Dickinson was battling cancer. The band had just released “Book of Souls” and they had to postpone their tour. A couple of years later, Dickinson is back and healthy and Maiden has released their second live record in the last couple of years.
Legacy of the Beast was recorded during three sold out shows in Mexico City in 2019. It’s basically a greatest hits with five songs that have not been released as live tracks before.
As expected, the performances are outstanding. Dickinson sounds as good as ever and the band hasn’t lost a thing. The crowd is lively and Dickinson continually calls more out of them with his patented “Scream for me Mexico”.
From what I have seen, the real beauty in this release is in the packaging. I only have the download so I have not experienced this personally. But I saw a video of Dickinson revealing the different formats and they look pretty amazing.
Other than the few songs that the band had not yet captured live, I’m not sure there is anything here that’s a must own unless you want to go for the physical copy. These are great performances but what Maiden performance isn’t?
For diehard fans, go buy a physical copy and enjoy all the cool stuff that comes with it. Otherwise, maybe download the songs you don’t already have and enjoy those.
Let’s just be happy Bruce is healthy and hope for more Maiden in the years to come.
