Enuff Z’Nuff — Brainwashed Generation

It’s hard to believe Enuff Z’Nuff have now released 15 albums. Their latest, “Brainwashed Generation”, is the follow up to their 2018 record “Diamond Boy”. A few years back original vocalist Donnie Vie left the band and Chip Z’Nuff has taken over lead vocal duties. But the band’s sound still is that combination of late Beatles meets 80s rock with a touch of psychedelic thrown in.

“Brainwashed Generation” starts with a quick 40 second instrumental followed by the classic sounding “Fatal Distraction”. Even though Z’Nuff’s voice is pretty different than Vie’s, the band still has that same sound.

The band gets a little heavier with “I Got My Money Where My Mouth Is”, a little more Beatles-like with “It’s All In Vain” and a little strange and psychedelic with “Drugland Weekend”.

But my personal favorites are “Broken Love” and “Go”. “Broken Love” is back to that classic sound which relies on melody but has those touches of those late Beatles influences. “Go” is slightly more bright and upbeat but with those same elements that have been the Enuff Z’Nuff trademark for decades. “Go” might be my favorite song from the band’s extensive catalogue.

I’m not sure there is anything new here. It’s pretty classic Enuff Z’Nuff so if you are already a fan I imagine you will be pretty happy. There are definitely a few tracks here that make “Brainwashed Generation” a quality record.
