Eclipse — Wired

Sometimes reviews can be overly complicated. I’ve found myself overanalyzing songs and trying to figure out what the band was thinking and who the song sounds like. Do I like this part and should they have sequenced the record differently?

I’m going to try and keep this one simple.

Eclipse is one of my favorite bands. In fact, they are my favorite band of the last 5 years. I gave their last record, “Paradigm”, one of the few perfect scores that I’ve ever given. And their album before that, “Momentum”, may have been ever better.

They are back with a new record titled “Wired”. I have avoided listening to any of the singles as I wanted to hear this record in full as intended. I’ve tried to minimize my expectations but after two perfect records, how could I? I’ve been burned by putting high expectations on bands in the past.

Well, to put it simply, they have done nothing to jeopardize their standing as my current favorite band and have exceeded my sky high expectations.

This record is awesome. From the opening riff on “Roses On Your Grave” to the final notes of “Dead Inside” and everything in between, this album is tremendous.

I have no idea how the band keeps coming up with such terrific songs without repeating themselves. I found myself singing along with many of these songs after the first listen. These songs are so inviting. They make me want to listen to them over and over.

The best way I can describe the sound is to think of your favorite 80s hard rock bands and update the sound. Huge hooks, lots of guitar solos, great production and fantastic performances all the way around by the band.

The band even adds some new twists on “Wired”. I hear a mandolin on one track and what sounds like a piece of “Ode to Joy” on another.

There is a time to break down this record but I am nowhere near that place. There is far too much here for me to digest after only a few days. But for now I will simply say that if you haven’t checked out Eclipse yet, you simply are missing out.

I cannot recommend this band enough. I can only hope that someday they will come somewhere close to me so I can go see them live.

Do yourself a favor and go get this record. You can thank me later.
