Album Review — Def Leppard
Def Leppard — Hits Vegas — Live At Planet Hollywood
Def Leppard has been flooding the market over the last few years with live releases and box sets. They’ve had a longstanding battle over their music rights and have re-recorded many of their albums to regain those rights. Over the last couple of years they have released multiple box sets and live records. So is another live release, “Hits Vegas — Live at Planet Hollywood” taken from their 2019 Las Vegas Residency, worth your time and money?
The first thing I check out when a live release comes out is the track listing. Do I already have multiple versions of these songs? When I looked at this list, I saw some tracks that caught my eye. “Excitable”, “Billy’s Got A Gun”, “Slang”, “Promises”, “Paper Sun”, “Mirror, Mirror”, “Let Me Be The One”, “We Belong” and “Action” are all songs that I don’t have many versions of.
Second, can the band still pull off these songs that are 30+ years old in some cases? Even though Joe Elliott doesn’t sound exactly the same as he did in the early 80s, he still sounds quite good and finds a way to stay true to these classics while adding some new bits here and there.
And finally, am I getting my money’s worth? With 28 tracks including a good number of songs we don’t have a lot of versions of, and a price of $6.99! on iTunes, you’d be crazy not to go buy this right now.
There is something for every Def Leppard fan here. They cover every era of the band and they still sound excellent. The classics are here but there are some deep tracks as well plus four acoustic tracks to start the second disc including two newer tracks. And did I mention the crazy price?
The first disc alone is well worth the price of the whole package. So stop reading this, go to iTunes and put down your seven bucks and enjoy your 2 1/2 hours of Def Leppard.
