The supergroup theme continues. Revolution Saints is made up of three main guys — Deen Castronovo (Journey/Hardline/Bad English), Jack Blades (Night Ranger) and Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake/Dead Daisies). This is their second record and features Deen on vocals.

First off, the band sounds like a cross of Journey and Night Ranger. Since those are my two favorite bands of my childhood, that’s a good start. Deen has a Steve Perry-type voice and I’ve heard him sing Perry songs live. He’s very good, better than any of the replacement Journey singers.

The first song and title track is the best song on the record. Blades shares vocals and it sounds like newer Journey. There are a couple of power ballads which are pretty good. Other highlights include “The Storm Inside”, “Running on the Edge” and “Falling Apart”.

The biggest problem I have with this band is that they didn’t write the songs. I wish there was more Jack Blades on the record. He’s such a good songwriter and has written for Journey in the past. But I do like the record. It’s as good, if not better, than any post-Perry Journey record. I do think this band has the potential to be even better, but with Blades in Night Ranger and now Castronovo joining Aldrich in Dead Daisies, I’m not sure any of them will have the time to do much more than what they are currently doing with Revolution Saints.
