As with every John Mayer record, I wish he would rock out more. He’s such a good guitar player that I would love to hear him shred for an entire album. That being said, Mayer’s latest record is very good. He released The Search For Everything as 3 4-song EPs and then all as one record.

Mayer is a tremendous songwriter. He has no problem writing songs about real issues. Whether it’s relationships, fictional characters or the state of the world, Mayer knows how to evoke emotion through song.

Mayer has some pretty incredible range. He seems comfortable playing the blues, folk/country, pop, soul and rock. There’s a little bit of everything here, all of it is good. My favorite songs include “Helpless”, “Love on the Weekend” and “In The Blood”. But every song on this record is a winner.

I continue to hope that one day Mayer will decide to do a rock record, but until then I’ll enjoy whatever he releases.
